Book Reviews

Writers: To Review a Book

In addition to art gallery and museum reviews, ArtScope.net also reviews art-related books. Most of the guidelines above apply to our book reviews. If you are interested in reviewing art books for ArtScope.net, please query the editor.

Publishers: To Submit a Book for Review

Publishers are welcome to submit books for review, and are encouraged to add us to their mailing list for seasonal catalogues of their art-related offerings. Advance proofs are also welcomed. Please include full contact information for your publishing house or publicity director with each book.

The types of books we review are non-fiction works pertaining to the visual fine arts, including selections on art history, art theory, art criticism, artist biographies, and exhibition catalogues. From time to time we also review how-to books on art as a business, books on the decorative arts, young-adult books relating to art, and books on photography. Past titles we have reviewed include Bright Earth: Art and the Invention of Color by Philip Ball, an in-depth look at pigments and their evolution over time; Rembrandt's Eyes, a biography of Rembrandt van Rijn by Simon Schama; How to Survive as an Artist, a book of business tips for artists; and Art's Prospect, a retrospective of art reviews by London Spectator critic Roger Kimball.
