Chicago Art Weekend 2005:
Chicago's art scene is a lively one during the next few days, with much to see in three major venues, each easily reached from the downtown Loop area. Billed as "Chicago's Art Weekend", the following events are being hosted from April 29 - May 2, 2005: Art Chicago in the Park is the 13th annual exposition of contemporary art organized by Thomas Blackman and Associates. Previously at Navy Pier, Art Chicago "returns to its roots" in the plein air venue of a 125,000 square foot tent at Butler Field. Art Chicago in the Park will host approximately one hundred local, national and international galleries, showcasing paintings, drawings, sculpture, mixed media, film, video and installations. Chicago Contemporary & Classic will be hosted at Navy Pier's festival hall and features approximately seventy-five galleries with local, national, and international participants. The fair "reflects 31st century collection" and offerings run the spectrum from established canonical names of 20th century art -- surrealists, in particular, well-represented -- to contemporary artists. NOVA Young Art Fair is an independent exposition of young art, staged at multiple locations in the West Loop Gate area. NOVA showcases the works of 30 artist-run spaces, artist collectives, apartment, storefront and traditional galleries from Chicago, the nation and around the world.
