Large expressive canvases of chalk, gesso, and acrylic are tacked rather unceremoniously on the wall, like primitive paintings on animal hides. Mr. Paxton presents a deeply introspective and primal analysis without being either concrete or completely abstract. These landscapes are as much about an emotional response to the landscape as they are figurative. At Linda Warren Gallery through February 7.
